Job 39:26–30

“Is it your wisdom that makes the hawk soar and spread its wings toward the south?

Is it at your command that the eagle rises to the heights to make its nest?

It lives on the cliffs, making its home on a distant, rocky crag.

From there it hunts its prey, keeping watch with piercing eyes.

Its young gulp down blood. Where there’s a carcass, there you’ll find it.”

Devotion by Chris Shiver

In the time this was written many of the wonders of nature were considered to be well beyond the abilities of humans to understand. Even today though science is able to explain many things, engineers and scientists still struggle to fully explain or mimic the means by which birds are able to fly. In fact, the study of natural science has taught us that as we learn and understand more, it reveals to us even more questions that remain unanswered and mysteries that remain unsolved.

The greatest mystery of all is God and what the creator’s means and plans are all about. For me it is enough to simply try each day to find the path that God is trying to reveal to me that will mean the greatest blessing for me, my family and acquaintances, our church community, and the world as a whole.

My Prayer:

Jesus, I pray that even as I seek to know and understand more, that I will also be content with the truth that God and the creation will always be mostly a great mystery. Amen.
