Psalm 148: 1-6
Praise for God’s Universal Glory
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his host!
Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars! Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created. He established them for ever and ever; he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.
Devotion by Anne Mooney
Have you ever stood under the night sky and been amazed by the stars and the grandeur of the heavens compared to the smallness that is You? I recall many times as a child, studying the moon and the stars and feeling like the universe was amazing. God had created such a vast and complex masterpiece. Those were spiritual moments. I also remember beautiful sunsets. My favorite place to watch the sun set is down on the Gulf at my cousin’s condo which is near a coastal dune lake. There is a small dock with a bench that is perfect for watching the sun go down. The heavens truly reflect God’s majesty and splendor. The mere existence of the heavenly bodies and their lights shining down on us from afar speaks to me of God’s immense power and creativity. Surely, I can rest in the knowledge that since God has created such a marvelous world, I can trust that God is there for me in good and bad times. I do not ever walk alone.
God, When I look to the heavens and see your glorious handiwork, I am amazed. Your creation is diverse, beautiful, and connected. I thank you for my life and the gifts of the sun, moon, and stars that remind me of your glory. I pray that I always feel awe when I ponder the vastness of the heavens. Amen
