1. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever. 2. Let the redeemed of the Lord say this— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, 3. Those he gathered from the lands, from the east and west, from north and south. Reflection by Darlene Wagner
The goodness of the Divine Spirit surpasses mere human notions of scarcity and abundance. Divine love endures to the age and all who are redeemed will rejoice at being rescued from their “foe”, be it poverty, sickness, lawless people, or death itself. In contrast to the popular Christian doctrine of the scarcity of salvation, the redeemed will be gathered from all lands, the east, the west, the north, and the south. Christ echoes this radical inclusiveness in his teachings:
“Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.” (Matthew 22:9).
Invocation: Dearest Loving Father, How your generosity surpasses human sense! Within your love, why should any of us, Your children, ever fear privation, loss, or hurt? All praise to you Great Lord, your love endures!
