But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.
Devotion by Julia Shiver
Many, many years ago, choices I took and decisions I made caused me to sin against God. My pastor counseled that I was making the best choice from my various options, but I still carried a great burden because of it. It stayed with me for many years.
Many years later, I would often revisit that time, bringing up all the pain and shame associated with it. I felt that I would always carry that burden through life. But one Lenten season, while attending a chapel service, God clearly spoke to me. God said that yes, I had made the best of a bad decision. God said that I had been forgiven many years before, but now I needed to forgive myself. And with God's help, I was finally able to accept God's forgiveness and to forgive myself. It was only then that I could move forward in my journey with God.
After that, I was able to minister to others as I had always hoped to. I became a Stephen Minister and Leader. I helped Chris lead mission trips to Mexico. I became involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry, and then to become a deacon at Pilgrimage. I became the Christian woman God had always meant for me to be. All things are possible with God.
Someone reading this needs to know that they are forgiven by you and it is time for them to forgive themself. All things are possible with you. Amen.
