13. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16. your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Reflection by Darlene Wagner
Whenever I feel bad about myself or judged unfairly by the world around, I remember that “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Growing up Transgender and not knowing who I was for most of my life has taken a toll on my self-esteem. Being raised in a traditional, Evangelical church was not helpful either. Yet, this same faith-tradition gave me a deep knowledge of scripture. Through such, I could learn that I am a much-loved child of Divine Spirit. Worldly, consumerist judgements cannot shake a person’s assurance that they are treasured by God.
