Devotion - January 7, 2020

Isaiah 42:5-7

Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.

Devotion by Julia Shiver

For a year that promised to bring us 20/20 sight, it has quickly gone dark. Australia is on fire, our Jewish and Muslim brothers and sisters are being attacked, tensions are rising with Iran and other Middle East Nations, our government is embroiled in impeachment investigations. It is all too easy to be overwhelmed with the dark news.

How blessed we are to have a God of light, a God who created the heavens and the earth and whose spirit is in each of us. We have a covenant with our God; we never walk alone. And our part of that covenant is to be that Light to others, to walk with those who are hurting, burdened, living in chaos, in bondage. God calls us to be God’s Light in a hurting world.

Dear God,

I praise you and thank you for this beautiful earth and all the peoples in it. Only with your guidance and strength can I be your Light to others. Amen.
