Psalm 29: 7-11

The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning.

8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks[c] and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. 11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Devotion by Laurie Spencer

On a day like today, polarized people in each political party will reach for the mighty name of the Lord to use in their defense. Everyone thinks God is on their side.

It is so hard to lift our minds up from this frightening election that has caused so much stress. However, we must focus on the knowledge that we are already under the great care of a mighty leader. This leader loves us deeply and is stronger than any man or a woman who can win an earthly election. The Lord God is king forever. The Lord blesses his people with peace.

Prayer

Father, Mother God, loving me, loving all your people, I hold you close this week. I cling to the comfort and assurance that a loving parent brings to a frightened child. Amen.
