Psalm 147:7-11 (New International Version)
7 Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp.
8 He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. 9 He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.
10 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; 11 the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

This passage reminds us of the interconnectedness of the natural systems of the Earth and how our universe is a gift our creator has placed in our hands.
Without the clouds the rain could not make crops grow, food sources cannot survive and thus we all perish.
It’s also a reminder that the things that divide us are absolutely not what we should be focusing on. For God, it all comes down to love. It reminds me of my childhood in the Christian Science church where a sign over the pulpit proclaimed three words. GOD IS LOVE.
We can ask ourselves in our daily prayer, “How can I apply this lesson today? Am I appreciating the gift of earth? Am I caring for it today? And can I lift myself out of the thoughts that divide me from my neighbors and rather share what brings us together?”
Father, Mother God, may the power of your omnipotent love propel me today to find places of common good to share with all my neighbors. All of them. Amen.
