Mark 8:31-33

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, ‘Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.’

Reflection by Julia Shiver

Dear community,

Sorry my devotion is coming to you late. I have tried for three days to find some bit of enlightenment, or comfort, or peace in the scripture. But the well is dry. I have no words of motivation or of hope for you right now.

I know that if one of you took me aside and spoke to me of your weariness, I would offer words of grace and forgiveness. It is an extremely trying time. Please be gentle with yourself. So, I will take those words to heart and be gentle with myself.

God is with you, and with me, even when we are running on empty. Maybe that is what Lent is for. A time to just rest in God's comfort, certain that the day will come when we are ready to continue this journey to the cross.

May God's peace be with you, dear friends.
