Devotion - February 26, 2020

Genesis 2:15-17

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, ‘You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.’

Reflection by Lynne Buell

Prior to the beginning of my faith journey, I interpreted this story literally. But today it sheds a different purpose for me. Simply, the Creator has given humans the ability to make decisions and the strength to carry out the responsibility of cultivating the earth. In addition, humans can embellish their lives spiritually by avoiding sin and following God’s will. After we have opened ourselves to God’s Spirit, we realize that it takes work physically and emotionally to achieve redemption.

Prayer:

Gracious God help us to appreciate your love and endless generosity each day. Help us to choose the right path toward salvation. Help us to love one another as you love us. Amen.
