Exodus 24:12–14

The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.’ So Moses set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. To the elders he had said, ‘Wait here for us, until we come to you again; for Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a dispute may go to them.’

Reflection by Janet Derby

Moses needs to go up the mountain and takes Joshua with him, leaving the people with Aaron and Hur in charge. If you read ahead, you learn that this doesn’t turn out too well, as the people get impatient and begin looking for an alternative to God.

We at Pilgrimage can certainly understand the difficulty of being without a spiritual leader. It is easy to get discouraged, and tired, and feel directionless. Yet, Pilgrimage has been blessed over the past two years with people who stepped up and filled the void. I am grateful for those who preached, and to the members of the council and congregation who ensured that the community continued its traditions and caring for each other. Lastly, I am grateful to the search committee that worked tirelessly to find a new spiritual leader to shepherd our community. Prayer

God of All, Thank you for all who lead us through the wildernesses of our lives. Help us to be willing to serve when we are called. Amen.
