The woods and every fragrant tree have shaded Israel at God’s command. For God will lead Israel with joy, in the light of his glory, with the mercy and righteousness that come from him.
Devotion by Laurie Spencer
Sometimes nature can be dangerous, we’ve certainly seen that with storms as the years go by. But this verse mentions that God protects Israel through nature. Indeed, while each season offers a glimpse of God’s beauty, it’s appreciating his creation that leads us to greater peace of mind and a knowing that we are under the Lord’s mighty wing. All we need do is get outside to see that we are a connected to a living matrix. We are not alone.
Now that it is dark and cold at night, I feel like going to bed at 6:30 PM. I don’t want to spend as much time outside. But the sun is up early, and warm fall days are calling us.
“Come, see what I have in store for you today!” says the Lord.
Some leaves still hang on, while others have fallen, exposing to us the strength of structure in nature that hides from us the rest of the year. I know some young people who love to take their shoes off and walk through the woods. They say that the practice of “grounding” helps to lower their blood pressure and connect with the earth’s living matrix. “Ouch” say my feet! But they do it to heighten the experience of appreciating and connecting with nature.
I have no doubt that a little time spent outside will give us the mental space to feel God’s protection and help find our way forward.
Father, Mother God, Loving me, dance with me in the sunlight today. Open my eyes to the power of your beauty and protection. Amen.
