The Birth of Jesus
In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Reflection by Duke Yaguchi
God had plans for Jesus long before His birth. It must be amazing to live a pre-ordained life. Unfortunately, His suffering on the cross was pre-ordained as well.
But could it be that God has a pre-ordained life for each of us? What could be included in that? What does the future hold for us? Can all of our twists and turns, through thickets and panoramic views be part of a master plan for each of us? Or did some of our bypasses result from our wandering off God's plan in search of our own?
I don't know if we can ever know for certain. When does God reveal His/Her plan for us? Is it after we have died? Is it on our death bed? Or is it sooner than we know?
We've been taught that if we ask, God shall deliver. So when do we ask? Or are we afraid the answer may include suffering for us as well?
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus! Help me overcome my fear of what you have in store for me and look for the light in you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
