“Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites.” Micah 5:3
Devotion by Darlene Wagner
This seems to be a passage with multiple meanings. As in many prophetic writings, Israel is predicted to go through a time of separation from God. Yet, this separation is only temporary. “She who is in labor” could be a mention of Mary, mother of Christ. On the other hand, “She” could represent the Christ’s church and her mission of bringing in the rest of Israel’s brothers. The promise of salvation for all peoples, in addition to Israel, is hinted in this verse.
Great Glorious One who saves!
Your generosity surpasses human sense;
Your love for us is unimaginably great!
Please persist in all your lessons
of how we are loved, although
we fail to love each other.
Remind us how each one of us
is your beloved child! Amen.
