James 1: 2-4
My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.

Does a day ever go by when you don’t experience some kind of mishap? Daily trials come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Whether it’s as minor as spilling your coffee or major such as an automobile accident or illness, there is always something that will affect the feeling of serenity. When you are going through a particular trial, what are your thoughts? “Now I have to change my shirt;” “No one is suffering as much as I am;” “They have more money and an expensive home, so they have no worries.” What do we base happiness on? That everything goes perfectly with absolutely no misfortunes? That’s not possible because each day will bring some sort of trial no matter how big or small. James makes an excellent point in this writing by encouraging us to look at all trials with joy and bask in the endurance we will experience. Through each trial, we will continue to develop into a genuine image of Jesus. So the next time you face an unpleasant ordeal, think about the joy of maturing and embrace the prospect of knowing God continues to pursue you with comfort and love.
