Psalm 124

1. If the Lord had not been on our side—let Israel say— 2. If the Lord had not been on our side when men attacked us, 3. When their anger flared against us,

they would have swallowed us alive; 4. The flood would have engulfed us,

the torrent would have swept over us, 5. The raging waters would have swept us away. 6. Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. 7. We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare; The snare has been broken, and we have escaped. 8. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Reflection by Darlene Wagner

Today, coronavirus is the enemy that engulfs us. With nearly 250,000 cases in Georgia and 5,000 dead, it is as if a torrent sweeps over us. Moreover, the people we look towards for leadership seem ensnared by fear, ignorance, or selfishness. It is times such as these in which we can look towards the God of Israel for aid. Let us devote a little more time to prayer each day. Give a little more time to meditative walks; and commit to listen to each other, truly listen. We must remind ourselves during this troubling time that our help is in the Maker of heaven and earth.

Invocation: Dear Father and Mother, To you we call in midst of fear and sickness. Please hear us as we face the possibility of death each day. Please grant us your abundant life, both life on earth And life in your resurrection. Hear our prayer for health and safety!
