But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than any human authority."
Reflection by Duke Yaguchi
Isn't that what led to Jesus' crucifixion, when the crowds listened to human authority rather than God? And what is it that God tells us to do? Simply to love God and love each other.
What muddies the waters and clouds our minds is when people profess hate in the name of God. Each of us must discern from where this hate originates. Is it really from God? Or is it motivated by power, revenge or fear?
The same needs to be examined in the hate we hold in our own hearts. Is it really coming from God? Or is it coming from a wanting of power, casting revenge or lashing out from fear? I can easily identify where the hate originates in me onto those few individuals I hate. It does not come from God. It is not Godly. It does not please God. Yet, I hang onto it. Why?
Dear Lord, I know I should listen to you instead of human authority. I know I should love instead of hate. Help me to release the hate in my heart so that I may become a truer follower of you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
