1 John 3:1-3

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Reflection by Janet Derby

There are many images for God, including the creator of an amazing universe, wind, and a dove of peace. For me, one of the most meaningful is that of a loving parent. There is little we would not do for our children. At times, we can do little more than comfort them. On some occasions, we need to let them fail, as difficult as that is. That we are called children of God means that no matter what we do, we are precious in God’s sight, and God will always be there for us.

Mother/Father God,

Thank you for the love and blessings you bestow upon us. Help us to remember that you are ever present to sustain and care for us. Amen.
