Zephaniah 3:14-16

A Song of Joy

Sing aloud, O daughter Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgements against you, he has turned away your enemies. The king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall fear disaster no more. On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands grow weak.

Reflection by Duke Yaguchi

When the Lord is with you, have no fear. Imagine a place where enemies are turned away. Disasters are a thing of the past. We can sing and rejoice and exult with all of our hearts!

Sometimes, the place for our fears are within our own imaginations. Our enemies lurk larger in the dark corners of our own minds. Sometimes, the disasters we fear are far worse than the ones that actually come to fruition.

I'm not saying there isn't a need for insurance or saving for a rainy day or retirement. But if we let fear overwhelm us, we'll use up so much energy trembling, we'll have little left for joy. Rejoice in the coming of the Lord!

Dear Creator, we dance with glee knowing that You shall overcome! We sing with joy for the coming of the Christ child! In Jesus' name I call out! Amen!
