By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain’s. Through this he received approval as righteous, God himself giving approval to his gifts; he died, but through his faith he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken so that he did not experience death; and ‘he was not found, because God had taken him.’ For it was attested before he was taken away that ‘he had pleased God.’ And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Reflection by Lynne Buell
I rely on my faith to guide me through life. I have challenged that faith only to discover that God is still with me. And I find solace knowing that God is aware that I truly try to please the Spirt every day even though I may not always feel like I succeeded because of my shortfalls. And I’m not fearful for what I cannot see. What I see is the beauty that God created on this earth. What I feel is God’s love for me. I don’t know how I will be rewarded. Perhaps my existence is the reward, but I like to think that when my time is up, I will see the true reward.
Amazing God, I will never stop praising you for your love and guidance. Amen.
