Hebrews 11:17-18 English Standard Version (ESV)
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, 18 of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”

Abraham gave to God the ultimate sacrifice. He was ready to kill Issac, so in his mind, Isaac was already given. The sacrifice was already made. Time and time again Abraham shows us how to have a strength of faith that is more than most people are capable of.
Isn’t it ironic that God gives us the ability to attach ourselves? We fall in love deeply with our children and partners, and we become passionate about important issues to make our world better.
But dedicating ourselves to people and our passions without being able to relinquish control to God can keep us very stuck. Or very sad. Or very blind. Or angry. God truly requires that we place Father Mother God, or the Holy Spirit, or Jesus (call it what you will), to place the divine in between ourselves and our attachments.
In order to have such strong faith, to make such an incredible sacrifice, to put our faith in action, one needs to release the people and things that we love in this life. How else can we be free to follow God as Abraham did? I imagine that is the only way that Abraham could have offered up his only son.
Father Mother God, loving me, lead my actions on earth to be your desires, not my own.
