Prayer for the Readers
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever.
Devotion by Lynne Buell
God’s love is the strongest foundation we must have to form our lives and destinies.
I am bursting with love this morning. And then, after pouring a delicious cup of coffee, I sat at my desktop computer to write a devotion. One would think that it was magic for this scripture to be the one that I am reflecting on. But there was no magic, it was all part of the plan.
Last night I felt love at choir rehearsal. Ten of us showed up to rehearse for Friends and Family Day this Sunday including Lidia, and we hadn’t been together all month which felt like a happy reunion of old friends! We all had one goal, and that was to sing together again. The energy and excitement were overwhelming among us!
This morning my daughter sent me a text (at 6:30) asking if I was up yet? Then she texted that she just wanted to tell me she loved me with two hearts. Then…she called me. I was still in bed and we talked for nearly an hour. We don’t talk every day, but we know we’re only a text and phone call away. I cannot put into words how much love I felt after her call.
Love is not something we can possess and hold, but when we open ourselves up to God’s love we will have the foundation to share that love throughout our day with everyone we encounter. The “My cup runneth over” feeling that I experienced during the past 24 hours will strengthen the very foundation that Paul alludes to in his letter to the Ephesians. And guess what, there is more love to look forward to because I am definitely filled with the Spirit. Amen.
