Matthew 2:7-10

7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

I suppose it’s possible that the Magi first believed that Herod could be trusted and really wanted to find the baby to worship him. But after they found Jesus and offered their gifts, they chose to pay attention to a dream that warned them not to return to Herod. I’ve never had a warning in a dream, but I’ve had plenty of gut feelings over the years that have been danger warnings. Being present and mindful to the many ways that God speaks to us can fulfill and enhance our lives and save us from heartbreak. The Magi are great examples of how to gather information from the divine. They followed a star, and they were overjoyed. They listened to a dream and they saved the Baby Jesus.

Can you think of ways that you have received divine messages that have guided you over the years?

Father Mother God, the greatest power that is, is you. Your powerful energy surrounds me and is in me. May I be aware of the many ways you reach out to me. May I find the joy and the safety in your messages.
