Luke 3: 21–22

The Baptism of Jesus

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.’

Reflection by Janet Derby

This is a well-known passage which is read each January and seems to have the obvious message that we are all God’s beloved children. I delayed writing my devotion for today in the hopes that I would get some inspiration from the children during children’s time and Sunday school. They did not disappoint. The children of Pilgrimage know deep down that they are loved – by their families, by their church, and by God. That is a beautiful testimony. The unfortunate truth is that there are far too many children in this world who do not have the same experience. My prayer today is that somehow, we can spread that experience and that message to a world in need.

God of Love,

I give thanks for all who love and care for the children in our midst. Help us to ensure that not one child is not touched by your love. Amen.
