Daniel 3:21-23 New International Version (NIV)
21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.

One does not need to take this passage literally to know that God has the ability to deliver us in crisis. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had complete faith that God would deliver them. That doesn’t necessarily mean they would have survived Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace, for as they say in a later passage, they knew they would be under God‘s good care even if they perished in the fire. It is that knowledge we must focus on daily.
One never knows when the bottom will fall out. It happens through life over and over again. I speak from experience because the last 18 months of my life has been a roller coaster of safety and fear.
It is in the peace times that we must practice for the fire. Know that God is with you always. When we and our loved ones are healthy, when our bills are paid, when calamity passes us by without even a whisper, know that God is with us, blessing us, loving us unconditionally. It is the practice of this knowledge that prepares us for the fires along the way.
Father, Mother God, loving me, there is nothing more important than putting you first. I don’t always remember to, and still you are there for me. I wish I were a perfect follower, for you are a perfect Father Mother who has stood by my side through fires and feasts. Amen.
