Ephesians 6:10-17

The Whole Armour of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Reflection by Duke Yaguchi

I can't take this scripture literally. I'm sure there were faithful Christians that put on the full armour of God when they were fighting the lions in ancient Rome's coliseum. And most of them did not survive. So what does it mean to be strong in the Lord?

Have faith in good over evil. Don't give in to those who would enslave our souls and hearts. Move forward knowing that peace and love pave the roads of righteousness.

This is God's message. It's better to make a little progress going toward good, rather than speed along the road of evil. What makes this so difficult today is that evil surrounds us and it is becoming more difficult to discover the good.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to continue to seek and find the good in others so that I may encourage them and strengthen them. I pray they can be strong enough to do the same for me, and together we follow God's will. Amen.
