Psalm 84:5-12

Happy are those whose strength is in you,

in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

As they go through the valley of Baca

they make it a place of springs;

the early rain also covers it with pools.

They go from strength to strength;

the God of gods will be seen in Zion.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;

give ear, O God of Jacob!

Behold our shield, O God;

look on the face of your anointed.

For a day in your courts is better

than a thousand elsewhere.

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

than live in the tents of wickedness.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

he bestows favour and honour.

No good thing does the Lord withhold

from those who walk uprightly.

O Lord of hosts,

happy is everyone who trusts in you.

As I was trying to find meaning in today’s scripture, I came across this poem written as a tribute to Psalm 84 and it really helped me process this scripture in a deeper way. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Psalm 84: How Lovely is Your House

How lovely is your house, amazing God!

I want nothing more than to live close to you.

Just like the sparrow builds a nest for her chicks,

you make your home in our hearts.

We love to know that you are with us -

we will sing your praise!

We get stronger because you are in us -

we will know your ways by heart.

You see us every day and you hear us when we pray -

we will go from strength to strength.

Just one day knowing you are near

is better than a thousand days without you.

Like the warm sunshine

you pour your love into our lives.

You bless us with all good things

when we turn to you and trust you.

How lovely is your house, amazing God!

I want nothing more than to live close to you.

God, thank you for continuing to live in relationship with me. Some days I need a little more comfort than others . . . some days I need to just celebrate you more. But every day I glorify you! AMEN
