Luke 22:31-34 New International Version (NIV)
31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

The next time we feel powerless, alone, abandoned, angry, frightened, or sorrowful, let us reread these verses. Let us focus in on the knowledge that Jesus is praying FOR US. And he prays with the certainty that we will emerge stronger and more able to help others. He knows where we will stumble and fail. He knows also how we will rise up and strengthen those around us.
Jesus, the time of Lent teaches me how supported I am BY you. What comfort there is in knowing you’ve got my back. Thank you. May I continue my Lenten walk holding this knowledge dear.
